FUNDAMENTAL
PRINCIPLES OF MILTON ERICKSON
These are the fundamental principals which Milton Erickson
wove into
every talk
with every patient. In this particular form I have been guided by Barber.
| 1. |
Nothing is going to be DONE
TO YOU; you are free to respond or not to respond. |
| 2. |
You can relax naturally and you may enjoy
relaxing now. Everything you experience will be natural, normal,
adequate, and appropriate. |
| 3. |
You can notice things naturally: things
inside you, and outside you; you can notice more and more and be
involved easily and naturally in what you notice. |
| 4. |
Every day, in many ways, you alter the meaning
of things you notice. You might listen to sounds expectantly, or
just let them pass, like the sound of a truck down the street.
You can alter the meaning of any part of experience in the same
way. |
| 5. |
Your memory is changeable. Sometimes you
remember everything vividly, other times you just let the memory
go. It isn't important what you do with memories, they are always
still there. It doesn't really matter how you do this. Your mind
simply chooses what's important and you remember as you need. |
| 6. |
Your comfortable feelings, you now experience,
the senses you experience right now, can be experienced again,
anytime, quickly and easily. |
